What does gluten free mean, and why is it important?
Gluten is a protein that is found in grains such as barley, oats and wheat. They are known to cause inflammation especially for people diagnosed with celiac disease. Gluten may also cause additional digestion problems for a number of people as well.
What does raw mean? And why is it so good for me?
Raw simply means none of the ingredients are cooked or heated in any way. Heating food causes it to lose nutritional value. Following a raw diet allows for fast absorption of all nutrients and enzymes.
What is a superfood? And why should I eat one?
Officially there is no legal definition, but the term superfood refers to a food low in calories and high in nutrients. For that reason, most superfoods come from plant-based sources. They are extremely beneficial to one’s health, providing many essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They also help reduce the risk of cancer and other diseases. If that’s not a reason to eat them, then what is?
I have a nut allergy, are you bars safe to eat?
Our Goldenberry and Goji bars are nut-free and delicious, however are processed in a facility that does process tree nuts. Almonds and other tree nuts are loaded with plant protein and healthy fats that go into a balance healthy lifestyle. It’s why they’re an ingredient we put in our bars.
What about a peanut allergy?
We are a peanut-free kitchen but SHANTI bars contain fruits, nuts, seeds, and spices. Since all our bars are paleo, none contain legumes, like peanuts or peanut butter. While our facility is 100% peanut-free, we do source our nuts and seeds from plants that may not be peanut-free.
I follow a paleo diet, can I eat your bars?
Yup, we love supporting a paleo diet because it has you eating non-processed, real organic food. Enjoy!
Do any of your bars contain GMOs?
We detest GMO! We also detest refined sugars, additives, and preservatives. We believe that none of those things belong in your body, so none of things are in our bars.
These bars can’t possibly taste good?
Well not technically a question, our bars are very tasty. We promise good health is delicious. We use only the best ingredients to deliver a very satisfying product.
How long of a shelf life do your bars have?
With the beauty of diligent research and culinary talent, we have achieved a 1-year shelf life! Even better, we have successfully achieved this stable shelf life without the use of any preservatives. A reminder this was done in the past before the infiltration of nasty preservatives just takes a bit more time and effort. But what’s a little extra time when the benefits of our bars will only prolong your life?
Why are you so in love with coconut nectar?
It’s an enzymatically alive product! It’s a sustainable ingredient that comes directly from the sap of a coconut tree. It’s very low on the glycemic index (35 GI) and contains 17 amino acids, minerals, vitamin C, broad-spectrum B vitamins, and neutral PH. It’s better than any other sweetening source. It also is vastly superior to other alternatives like agave nectar/syrup. Bonus, coconut nectar doesn’t taste or flavor recipes like coconut, since it’s from the tree and not the fruit. So if you’re not fan of coconut you can still enjoy coconut nectar!
Why is coconut nectar’s low glycemic score good?
The glycemic index (GI) is the ranking of a food’s immediate effect on blood sugar levels and the amount of glucose released by a particular food over a 2-3 hour period. The higher a food raises blood sugar, the higher its glycemic index. That is why having a low glycemic index is good.
Why do you use Brown Rice Syrup and Grape Juice in your protein line?
In addition to using coconut nectar, we also use a small amount of organic, Non-GMO brown rice syrup and grape juice.
We have added these ingredients as they have been proven to help keep the bars fresh, moist, soft and chewy for over 12 months. This is our natural way of maintaining the integrity of the product and ensuring a shelf stable, delicious bar.
The brown rice syrup and grape juice we use are formulated by a very low and slow heating process which does not exceed over 115 degrees. This process maintains the integrity of the nutrients in both ingredients.
Furthermore, the brown rice and grape juice are sourced from Organic, Non-GMO rice and grapes from California. The rice grown in California have the lowest arsenic levels in the country (well below allowable limits).
Lastly, both ingredients are low on the glycemic index and our bars have been approved and accepted by a variety of nutritionists.

Why do you use Rice Protein?
Before we created our first SHANTI Bar, we worked with a food scientist and researched several ingredients that could be included in each bar. But our goal was to make something that we hadn’t found yet: a bar that was 100% organic, raw, organic, vegan, non-gmo, kosher, packed with superfoods.
After our research, we chose to use a raw, sprouted, brown rice protein in our SHANTI Bars for its many benefits. Rice goes through a natural, organic process to separate the protein from the carbohydrate, so all that’s left is the protein.
The rice goes through a chemical-free, low-heat, sprouting process so the amino acids can be extracted. The result is a product that allows the body to receive the bioavailability, digestibility, and satiety without the allergens, cholesterol, and sodium that is often found in whey protein.
Because this protein comes from rice, it’s easier to digest and contains many nutrients. Rice protein is great, especially for those looking to avoid dairy, soy, and gluten. In each serving of rice protein, there is six times more protein than in 15 almonds, three times more protein than in one cup of cooked quinoa, three times more protein than one large egg, and three times more protein than one cup of raw spinach.
Plant-based proteins, like rice protein, contain less fat, less atherogenic fat (causing clogged arteries/heart disease), zero cholesterol, and lots of dietary fiber and protective nutrients, such as bioflavonoids.
Rice protein contains the nine essential amino acids the body needs, but can only get from food. Because of these amino acids, the body can properly rebuild muscle after a workout. Not only is rice protein vegetarian and vegan, it’s allergen-friendly, as it does not contain egg, soy, milk, gluten, wheat, rye, and barley.
